Silence is the sound of possibility

Silence is the sound of possibility

Sometimes it seems everyone is talking and no one is listening. The words come in a constant stream from our coworkers, our clients, our devices, this blog you are reading, the voices in our heads….

When we become constant producers and consumers of words, each word is less and less valuable. Our minds tell us if we just keep producing more and more words, we can change things, but actually the opposite is true. When words are rare they rise in value.

Today, let’s practice silence.

When you don’t have an answer, pause until you have a question.

When you don’t understand, pause and reflect.

When you are frustrated, angry, or short tempered, don’t do anything.

When the voices in your head say you are not enough, or others are not enough, or something is impossible, take a deep breath and imagine they are all just words floating down the river of your mind, and watch them float away.

When you are reading your texts, emails, or socials, take a break for 60 seconds of silence and breathing, closing your eyes or gazing at a view that pleases you.

Ten times today, just experience a few moments of silence. What happens?
